What is an AOE question?
An AOE question is an "Ask on Order Entry" question. These are typical questions asked before a lab sample is taken and provide the lab with valuable information on the specimen's site, source, and clinical information needed to interpret the results.
You will receive them when sending a manual test for a lab account setup. Another reason that you might receive AOE questions would be pregnancy-related testing. The lab will need this information to correctly interpret the testing results. Supplying this information at order entry will avoid the office from receiving a call from the lab requesting the information.
For example, an AOE question would be: "What is the patient weight?" or "What is the date of the patient's last lmp? (for pregnancy-related testing)".
These are basic questions that every provider should know and will show up as question fields when a test is selected.
