There are several layers to how appointment overlapping works. This article includes information on how the settings work for the: practice group, doctor, and account.
PG Settings
Overlap check all calendars
- This setting controls the ability to book overlapping appointments for a doctor which is the same as Global overlap checking does. However, the way it works is that is:
- IF Overlap check all calendars = false & Global overlap checking = false
- then appointments can overlap for the doctor
- IF Overlap check all calendars = True & Global overlap checking = false
- then appointments cannot overlap for the doctor
- IF Overlap check all calendars = false & Global overlap checking = True
- then appointments cannot overlap for the doctor but can be for other doctors in the practice who have Global overlap checking = false
- IF Overlap check all calendars = True & Global overlap checking = True
- then appointments cannot overlap for the doctor or any other doctors in the practice
- NOTE: appointments include breaks
- IF Overlap check all calendars = false & Global overlap checking = false
Provider Settings
Allow overlapping appointments
- This setting is the same exact setting as Allow Exam room overlap settings in Account settings. If this is turned on in Doctor settings, then it changes Allow Exam room overlap settings to True. And vice versa, if Allow Exam room overlap settings is set to True in the Account settings, then Allow overlapping appointments is then set to true (same case for false).
- However, if Global overlap checking = True in Account Settings and a DrChrono employee marks Allow overlapping appointments as True, then it overrides Global overlap checking, setting it as false and setting Allow Exam room overlap settings as True.
Account Settings (in specific doctor’s account)
- Allow Exam room overlap settings: if true, then multiple appointments can overlap within an exam room
- Global overlap checking if true, then appointments cannot overlap for a provider
