When NY doctors prescribe controlled substances, they have an additional step through the New York State Health Commerce System. This system requires providers to enter the patient's name and date of birth and will pull up their past prescription history with a reference number. This needs to be done for each controlled substance prescribed.
At this time, the PMP must be accessed through the Health Commerce System. The Department of Health is actively working on solutions to integrate the PMP Registry into electronic medical records but is currently not integrated with DrChrono.
